Dust with a dry, soft cloth. For a mark, wipe with a barely damp cloth and dry it straight away — marble is porous, and standing water leaves a ring. Never use bleach, vinegar, lemon or a cream cleaner. Acids etch the polish, and an etched surface cannot be put back. Suitable for outdoors, where it will weather slowly to a softer surface.

About this piece
Padre Pio in the Capuchin habit, carved by hand in marble at three feet. Bearded, hands together, the face carried by the carving rather than by paint.
Francesco Forgione was born at Pietrelcina in 1887 and spent most of his life as a Capuchin friar at San Giovanni Rotondo, where he heard confessions for hours every day for decades. He bore the stigmata from 1918 until his death in 1968, was examined and doubted and examined again, and was canonised in 2002. The hospital he founded is still there.
