Dust with a dry, soft cloth. For a mark, wipe with a barely damp cloth and dry it straight away — marble is porous, and standing water leaves a ring. Never use bleach, vinegar, lemon or a cream cleaner. Acids etch the polish, and an etched surface cannot be put back. Suitable for outdoors, where it will weather slowly to a softer surface.

Delivered to any county in Ireland for €285, or collect it free in Termonbarry, Co. Roscommon once it is paid in full — the meeting place is agreed with Thomas on WhatsApp.

About this piece
Our Lady of Mount Carmel with the Child and the brown scapular. Carved by hand in marble and standing five feet — the tallest piece in the collection, made for a church, a large shrine or a grotto rather than a house.
Carmel is the mountain in the Holy Land where hermits gathered near the spring of Elijah and from whom the Carmelite order grew. Our Lady is honoured there as its patron and mother, and the brown scapular she is shown holding is the sign of that order worn by lay people the world over. The feast is 16 July.
