Dust with a dry, soft cloth. For a mark, wipe with a barely damp cloth and dry it straight away — marble is porous, and standing water leaves a ring. Never use bleach, vinegar, lemon or a cream cleaner. Acids etch the polish, and an etched surface cannot be put back. Suitable for outdoors, where it will weather slowly to a softer surface.

About this piece
The Assumption — Our Lady taken up, hands open and face raised. Carved by hand in marble at three feet. An upward figure, so it is worth giving it height: a niche above eye level, or a plinth.
That Mary was taken up body and soul into heaven at the end of her earthly life was believed and kept as a feast for many centuries before Pius XII defined it in 1950. It is kept on 15 August, and in Ireland it long marked the turn of the harvest as much as the calendar.
