Dust with a dry, soft cloth. For a mark, wipe with a barely damp cloth and dry it straight away — marble is porous, and standing water leaves a ring. Never use bleach, vinegar, lemon or a cream cleaner. Acids etch the polish, and an etched surface cannot be put back. Suitable for outdoors, where it will weather slowly to a softer surface.

Delivered to any county in Ireland for €285, or collect it free in Termonbarry, Co. Roscommon once it is paid in full — the meeting place is agreed with Thomas on WhatsApp.

About this piece
Jesus, Mary and Joseph together, carved by hand in marble at three feet. A group rather than a single figure, so it needs its width — a wide niche, a broad sill, or a table where it can be seen from the front.
The Holy Family is the household at Nazareth, where thirty of the thirty-three years were spent and almost nothing was recorded. The feast was given to the universal Church in 1921 and is kept on the Sunday after Christmas. It is the ordinary life of a working family, held up as the model for every other.
The devotion
In a church, a Holy Family group speaks to every family in the pews: the young couple, the parents worn out, the grandparents, the widowed. It is a reminder that God chose to grow up in a household, under the authority of a mother and a working father, and that this hidden life was holy.
Many Irish parishes and schools carry the name of the Holy Family, and the image of Nazareth suits a family memorial or a parish jubilee as well as a church.
Where it suits
A group rather than a single figure, so it needs its width: a wide church niche, a side chapel, a family room with a broad sill, or a garden where it can be seen from the front. The shop marks it suitable for outdoors.
Questions
- Can it stand outside?
- Yes, the shop marks it suitable for outdoors, where it will weather slowly to a softer surface.
- How much space does a group need?
- More width than a single figure. The measurements on this page are taken from the piece itself; our size guide explains how to check them against a niche.
- Is it the same group as the painted Holy Family?
- The subject is the same, but this is hand-carved marble left as stone, while the resin Holy Family is painted and made for indoors.
- How is it delivered?
- Marble is too heavy for the post, so we deliver it ourselves to any county in Ireland, at the delivery charge shown on this page. Or collect it free in Termonbarry, Co. Roscommon once it is paid in full; the meeting place is agreed with Thomas on WhatsApp (+353 85 285 1015). Details are on shipping & returns.
