Dust with a dry, soft cloth, and a dry soft brush for the folds and the face. For a mark, a barely damp cloth and nothing else — solvents, scouring creams and household sprays lift hand-painted detail and it cannot be repainted to match. Keep it out of long direct sunlight, which fades the colours over the years. Made for indoors. If you want this figure for a garden or a grotto, ask us — pieces meant to stand outside are finished differently.

About this piece
The Sacred Heart with both arms opened wide rather than one hand raised — the same devotion in a more welcoming posture. Hand-painted resin in five heights from 50 to 100 cm, each in a plain finish or a glitter one that catches the light on the robe.
The open arms belong to the same revelation given to St Margaret Mary at Paray-le-Monial in the 1670s, in which the heart is shown wounded and burning and nothing is asked in return but that the love be recognised. Where the standard figure points to the heart, this one simply holds the room open.
The devotion
Christ in this figure is not explaining the devotion; he is simply receiving whoever comes in. The open arms recall the words of the Gospel — “Come to me, all you who labour and are overburdened, and I will give you rest” — and they make the Sacred Heart an image of welcome as much as of love wounded.
That is why it is so often chosen for the threshold of a life: a new house, a marriage, a first home after emigration, or a room where people are sick or grieving. The promises given to St Margaret Mary included peace in families and a blessing on the houses where the image of the Heart is honoured, and this is the posture that seems to say so.
Where it suits
The wide gesture needs a little air on either side, so give it a shelf or a sideboard where nothing crowds it, or an entrance hall where it faces the door. The five heights cover everything from a bedside to a parish room, and the glitter finish is worth choosing where the light is low.
Hand-painted resin is made for indoors; a sheltered room away from strong sun keeps the colours longest.
Questions
- Which Sacred Heart should I choose for a new house?
- Either is right. Many people choose the Open Arms for a house blessing because it greets whoever comes through the door; others prefer the traditional pose with the hand at the heart. See our house blessing gifts for more ideas.
- Is it resin or marble?
- Hand-painted resin, in a plain finish or a glitter one. Hand-painted finishes vary slightly from casting to casting; that is part of the object, not a fault.
- Can it go in a garden?
- Not this piece — the shop marks it for indoors. For a garden, ask us: outdoor pieces are finished differently, and marble can be carved to order.
- How is it delivered?
- Hand-painted resin is posted to any address in Ireland at one flat rate per order, however many pieces are in it, and you get a tracking link by email when it leaves us. You can also collect it free in Termonbarry, Co. Roscommon, arranged with Thomas on WhatsApp. If it arrives damaged, send us a photograph within 48 hours and we replace or refund it — see shipping & returns.
