Dust with a dry, soft cloth, and a dry soft brush for the folds and the face. For a mark, a barely damp cloth and nothing else — solvents, scouring creams and household sprays lift hand-painted detail and it cannot be repainted to match. Keep it out of long direct sunlight, which fades the colours over the years. Made for indoors. If you want this figure for a garden or a grotto, ask us — pieces meant to stand outside are finished differently.

About this piece
St Joseph with the lily, his brown mantle over a white robe, “St Joseph” lettered on the base. Hand-painted resin at 60 and 100 cm in a plain finish, and at 70 and 80 cm in a glitter finish that catches the light on the cloak — worth having where the figure stands away from a window.
Joseph is given no words in the Gospels. He is told things in dreams — take the child and his mother, go to Egypt, come back — and he gets up and does them. Declared patron of the universal Church in 1870, he is asked for by workers, by fathers, and by anyone praying for a good death.
The devotion
St Joseph is the saint people go to for the practical things: work, a house, a family’s needs, and at the end a good death. “Ite ad Ioseph” — go to Joseph —, the Church says, borrowing the words Pharaoh spoke of the other Joseph who fed Egypt.
His great feast is 19 March, and since 1955 he is also honoured as St Joseph the Worker on 1 May. The Church has always seen in him the protector of the family at Nazareth, and so of every family. In 2020–21 Pope Francis kept a whole Year of St Joseph, and the old custom of dedicating Wednesdays to him is still kept by many.
Where it suits
With the lily and the brown mantle, and his name lettered on the base, this is a figure that suits a kitchen, a workshop, a home office, the room of a father or grandfather, or a school. The glitter finish lifts the cloak where the figure stands away from a window.
Hand-painted resin is made for indoors; keep it out of long direct sunlight.
Questions
- What does the lily mean?
- The lily stands for St Joseph’s purity and his chaste love for Our Lady. It is the oldest sign by which he is recognised in statues.
- Would this suit a man making his Confirmation, or a new father?
- St Joseph is a natural patron for both — for a boy taking Joseph as his Confirmation name, or for a father. See Confirmation gifts and religious gifts.
- Can it go outdoors?
- No, it is made for indoors. For a garden, the marble St Joseph is suitable for outdoors.
- How is it delivered?
- Hand-painted resin is posted to any address in Ireland at one flat rate per order, however many pieces are in it, and you get a tracking link by email when it leaves us. You can also collect it free in Termonbarry, Co. Roscommon, arranged with Thomas on WhatsApp. If it arrives damaged, send us a photograph within 48 hours and we replace or refund it — see shipping & returns.
