Dust with a dry, soft cloth, and a dry soft brush for the folds and the face. For a mark, a barely damp cloth and nothing else — solvents, scouring creams and household sprays lift hand-painted detail and it cannot be repainted to match. The glitter finish sits on the surface, so wipe lightly and never rub. Keep it out of long direct sunlight, which fades the colours over the years. Made for indoors. If you want this figure for a garden or a grotto, ask us — pieces meant to stand outside are finished differently.

About this piece
Our Lady Help of Christians, crowned in red and gold, holding the crowned Child on her arm, her white mantle worked in a pearl and glitter finish. Hand-painted resin at 100 cm — a full-height figure for a hall, an oratory or a school or parish shrine.
The title Help of Christians was sung in the litanies long before it had a feast. Pius VII gave it one, on 24 May, in thanksgiving for his return to Rome in 1814 after five years as Napoleon's prisoner. St John Bosco made it the devotion of his whole work with the boys of Turin and built the basilica of Mary Help of Christians there, consecrated in 1868; wherever the Salesians went, this crowned Mother and Child went with them.
The devotion
“Help of Christians, pray for us” is one of the invocations of the Litany of Loreto, and tradition links it to the victory at Lepanto in 1571, which Pope St Pius V credited to the rosary. Wherever Christians have been under pressure, it is the title they have reached for.
It travelled far with the Irish. The bishops of Australia, a church built in great part by Irish emigrants and priests, placed their country under Mary Help of Christians in 1844, and St John Bosco’s Salesians, who run schools and youth work in Ireland, carry this crowned Mother and Child with them wherever they go. Her feast is 24 May.
Where it suits
A full-height figure in painted resin, with a pearl and glitter finish on the white mantle — made for a hall, an oratory, or a school or parish shrine, especially a Salesian one. It is made for indoors.
