Dust with a dry, soft cloth. For a mark, wipe with a barely damp cloth and dry it straight away — marble is porous, and standing water leaves a ring. Never use bleach, vinegar, lemon or a cream cleaner. Acids etch the polish, and an etched surface cannot be put back. Suitable for outdoors, where it will weather slowly to a softer surface.

Delivered to any county in Ireland for €285, or collect it free in Termonbarry, Co. Roscommon once it is paid in full — the meeting place is agreed with Thomas on WhatsApp.

About this piece
The same Lourdes figure, carved with more detail through the veil, the sash and the roses. Marble, three feet. Worth choosing where it will be seen close to — a niche at eye level, or a shrine people approach rather than pass.
Bernadette was asked what the lady looked like and gave the same answer to every questioner for the rest of her life. The eighteen apparitions at Massabielle in 1858, and the name given at the sixteenth — “I am the Immaculate Conception” — set the pattern of every Lourdes figure carved since.
The devotion
A shrine is not only a place to pass by; it is a place people walk up to, light a candle and stay. This carving is for that kind of place. The extra work in the veil, the sash and the roses at her feet is there to be seen by someone standing a few feet away with a candle in their hand.
Bernadette described the lady as young and small, dressed in white with a blue sash, a rosary of white beads on her arm and a yellow rose on each foot. Every faithful Lourdes figure since has tried to keep that description, and the fine carving here tries a little harder.
Where it suits
Choose this one where the statue will be at eye level and approached: a church side altar, a shrine in a parish grounds where people kneel, a cemetery chapel, a memorial garden with a bench before it. The shop marks it suitable for outdoors, where the marble weathers slowly to a softer surface.
Questions
- What is different about the Fine Detail Lourdes?
- It is the same Lourdes figure carved with more detail through the veil, the sash and the roses. The Blue Ribbon marble has the sash picked out in blue.
- Is it suitable for a parish grotto outdoors?
- Yes — the shop marks it suitable for outdoors. Set it on a firm base, and see our grotto guide.
- Will it look exactly like the photograph?
- It is carved by hand from natural stone, so expect small differences in grain, colour and detail from the statue photographed.
- How is it delivered?
- Marble is too heavy for the post, so we deliver it ourselves to any county in Ireland, at the delivery charge shown on this page. Or collect it free in Termonbarry, Co. Roscommon once it is paid in full; the meeting place is agreed with Thomas on WhatsApp (+353 85 285 1015). Details are on shipping & returns.
