County Donegal
Religious statues in Co. Donegal
Donegal is Colmcille’s county — born, by tradition, at Gartan — and it holds Lough Derg, the island where pilgrims still fast and keep vigil barefoot as they have for centuries.

Raphoe, Letterkenny and the north-west
Most of the county belongs to the Diocese of Raphoe, whose cathedral in Letterkenny is dedicated to St Eunan and St Columba. Inishowen and the area around it look to the Diocese of Derry, and the south of the county, including Lough Derg, to the Diocese of Clogher.
Pilgrimage in Donegal
Lough Derg (St Patrick’s Purgatory)
Near Pettigo. The three-day pilgrimage season runs from late May or early June until 15 August: pilgrims go barefoot, keep an all-night vigil and take one simple meal a day of dry toast, oatcakes and black tea or coffee. One-day retreats are held at other times of year.
The Turas at Glencolmcille
On St Colmcille’s feast, 9 June, pilgrims walk the fifteen stations of the Turas, about three miles through the valley, past cross-pillars and cairns.
Doon Well, near Kilmacrenan
One of the best-known holy wells in the county, long visited for cures. Gartan, Colmcille’s traditional birthplace, is not far away.
Which statues suit
Donegal weather is hard on anything outside. A wayside shrine, a grave or a garden niche facing the Atlantic is a job for hand-carved marble — Our Lady of Grace in marble, for example — and our outdoor care guide is written for exactly this kind of exposure.
Indoors, painted resin brings colour to a kitchen or prayer corner: the Sacred Heart, Our Lady of Knock for those who make the journey to Mayo, or St Joseph. A statue of Colmcille is something we would carve to order — ask us.

Questions from Donegal
How much is delivery to Co. Donegal?
Resin statues go by post to any address in Co. Donegal for a flat €15 per order, however many statues are in the parcel. Marble is too heavy for the post, so we deliver it ourselves; the delivery charge for each marble statue is shown on its own page before you order. That goes for the islands too, wherever the post reaches. Marble goes all the way to Inishowen and the Rosses; it is a long drive, so we agree the date well ahead.
Is a souvenir from Lough Derg or Knock the same as a statue from you?
Shrine shops sell small devotional pieces. We sell statues for the home, the church and the garden, in painted resin and carved marble, with the size given on each page.
Can you deliver to an address in Northern Ireland?
The website delivers within the Republic only. Write to us and we will tell you honestly whether we can help.

Sligo
By Lough Gill, Tobernalt holy well and its Penal-times Mass rock draw crowds every Garland Sunday. Sligo town is also the cathedral town of the Diocese of Elphin.
Leitrim
Leitrim is close to home for us: our free collection point in Termonbarry, Co. Roscommon, is within easy reach of much of the south of the county. Its own holy ground is at Fenagh, where St Caillín’s monastery stood.
Outdoor statues in Irish weather
Ireland is kind to stone in some ways and hard on it in others. Rain is constant, frost comes and goes, and wind off the Atlantic finds anything not fixed down. A little care at the start and once a year does most of the work.
